St. Jerome's1966 Website

Let me share my photography with you!

I wanted to leave samples of my photographs on the Saint Jerome's web site, as an additional place to leave my mark other than my personal John Hartig Photography web site, because well, once I die (and life is so short), I wanted to leave proof in as many places as possible of what I did in my life. I hate to see my pictures disappear from cyberspace if my photography web site was ever taken off-line. Maybe including sample pictures here and burning a CD copy for friends and family of this St Jerome's site will leave an extra record of my art, my hard work and my life.

Ken Janzen
RIP

Click for EnlargementAnd speaking of life being short...My wife, Marjorie's brother, Ken Janzen died of lung cancer on January 18, 2008 at 3:39 pm. He died at home with family gathered around his bed. We watched him take his last breath. He was 37 years old.

Kenny was a gifted web designer and musician. The first thing that he lost when he got his cancer was his singing voice. The cancer paralyzed his larynx. I'd like to leave evidence of his existence on this website and how he used his gifts. The universe is less without him.

Mental Meanderings: I have also visited Kenny's grave site a half dozen times since he died, walking over with boots at the end of January in the snow (since we are only a mile away from the cemetery). Closer to spring, I've both walked and bicycled over. There are no answers that come in thunder and lightning from the clouds. Why did this happen to a man 37 years old? Why do we all have to face our own end someday? What are we all doing in the meantime as a human race and in this human race of life -- to gather more stuff? Some people don't even think about such things. Spirit, values and ethics have not crossed their minds. That's why I cherish the wisdom from Job, Psalms, Proverbs and Ecclesiastes so much. Heaven knows, there better be a God! Because we have to have something better than what's on this earth!

"What profit has a man from all
his labor
In which he toils under the
sun?
One generation passes away,
and another generation
comes
--Eccl. 3-4

Take time to read my poem to Ken Janzen, my wife's brother, dead of lung cancer at age 37: I Walked to Kenny's Grave Today.
